Chicago Slices – Media Burn Summer 2016
Teens from Summer 2016 Camera Flux used the archival video footage from Media Burn, other found imagery, and some original video scenes to create a new mix on the Media Burn Collection. Teens were able to explore the Media Burn website and youtube channel and select videos that they would use for their final works. Some teens also added in other video imagery they found online outside of Media Burn, as well as original footage taken by them. What was made was a bizarre, colorful, humorous and sometime frightening look of the past. Check out the final videos here! https://vimeo.com/album/4093137
This summer exploration will be used as a way to develop guides for other after school programs on how to implement Media Burn into their program. Sara from Media Burn recommended we select a few videos from Media Burn and see what the students can make from the limited source. This was inspired by a project she viewed from the Museo del Cine in Buenos Aires. Twenty five artists recut3 archival newsreels to make their own short pieces, which were combined into a single film. It originally showed at BAFICI (Buenos Aires Festival Internacional de Cine Independiente). You can view that project here: https://vimeo.com/110509227
We are excited to see what the teens will come up with in the fall by following the example of the Museo del Cine.
